Q: What happens when a nursing center resident’s funds are spent down?
A: Baptist Homes will continue to meet a resident’s needs while families assist in the application process for medical assistance. Medical assistance (Medicaid) is a government program that pays for nursing home care after a resident has used all of their assets, except $2,400. (There are certain assets that are exempt, such as an irrevocable burial reserve). There are also regulations which allow a spouse to retain a portion of a couple’s income.
