Today, Baptist Senior Family President & CEO Timothy L. Myers issued a memo regarding the COVID-19 virus. Recent cases have been communicated via Regroup phone calls when required. On the Baptist Homes campus in May, one skilled nursing resident, one dining staff member and two members of the corporate office staff have tested positive for COVID-19. See the full memo here.

Since our last weekly COVID-19 update on September 30, we learned that one newly-hired fully-vaccinated asymptomatic staff member who had attended one day of orientation with no resident contact, tested positive for COVID-19. On the Baptist Homes campus, visitation in skilled nursing and personal care is open. Visitors need to be made aware of positive cases and that outbreak testing is occurring. Today, Baptist Senior Family President & CEO Al Allison issued a memo to all residents, families and staff regarding Baptist Senior Family’s continued efforts to battle the COVID-19 virus within our communities. Since our last weekly COVID-19 update on July 2, one skilled nursing resident who was tested at the hospital at time of their discharge per regulation has tested positive for COVID-19. Visitation on the second floor skilled nursing unit continues to be temporarily suspended. Visitation is open in personal care, and in skilled nursing on the third floor and in the first floor green zone. As of Friday, June 18, visitors are no longer required to make an appointment to visit skilled nursing residents in the green zone at Baptist Homes. Staff and visitors continue to be screened for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 at the time of entering our buildings and must wear a mask at all times while in skilled nursing, personal care and memory support areas on our campuses. Today, Baptist Homes announced that on Tuesday, September 22, 2020, the facility will begin to lift restrictions on visitation as outlined in its Baptist Homes Nursing and Personal Care Implementation Plan, and move to Step 2 of its reopening plan. In the event Allegheny County would be required to return to the red phase under Governor Wolf’s Reopening of Pennsylvania Plan, or in the event a resident or staff member of Baptist Homes tests positive for the virus, the facility would immediate halt the Implementation Plan and follow the guidance as set forth by the Governor’s Office and the Pa Dept. of Health.

A memo was issued to all residents, families and staff regarding Baptist Senior Family’s continued efforts to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus within our communities. Since the last update on July 23, 2020 two residents of the Providence Point Healthcare Center have tested positive for COVID-19 and no residents on the Baptist Homes campus have tested positive. Between both campuses, a total of seven staff members and two contracted staff members have tested positive for COVID-19. We have contacted anyone who was potentially exposed to the virus due to close contact with these individuals to inform them of the possible exposure. Since our last weekly update on July 10, 2020, there have been no residents at the Baptist Homes and Providence Point campuses who have tested positive for COVID-19. During the orientation process in which all new staff is tested, one person tested positive for the virus. This person had no contact with residents and was masked. Other staff who had been in contact with this person were tested and were found to be negative for COVID-19. There are currently no residents or staff members who are symptomatic for COVID-19 on either of our campuses. The skilled nursing, personal care, and memory support residences continue to follow the Governor’s mandates regarding visitation, communal dining, group activities, and beauty and barber services. On July 10th, Baptist Senior Family President & CEO Al Allison issued a memo to all residents, families, and staff regarding the organization’s ongoing battle with the COVID-19 virus. Since our last weekly update on July 2, 2020, there have been no residents or staff at the Baptist Homes and Providence Point campuses who have tested positive for COVID-19. There are currently no residents or staff members who are symptomatic for COVID-19 on either of our campuses. The skilled nursing, personal care, and memory support residences continue to follow the Governor’s mandates regarding visitation, communal dining, group activities, and beauty and barber services. The resurgence in the number of positive cases in southwestern Pennsylvania is continuing, prompting the Department of Health to extend its restrictions and orders for residents of Allegheny County for two additional weeks. We all must be diligent to continue to:
- Wear masks while at work,
- Follow the mandate of the State’s expanded face-covering and mask-wearing order to, essentially, wear a mask “whenever anyone leaves home,”
- Practice social distancing of 6 feet or more,
- Continue to observe appropriate cough and sneeze etiquette,
- Continue to wash hands frequently for at least 20 seconds with soap and water, and
- Use hand sanitizer frequently when hand washing is not practicable.

On June 25th, Baptist Senior Family President & CEO Al Allison issued a memo to all residents, families, and staff regarding the organization’s ongoing battle with the COVID-19 virus. Per the mandate of the Pennsylvania Department of Health, we conducted universal baseline COVID-19 testing of all residents and staff. All of our residents had negative test results. We were notified earlier this week that a resident’s caregiver at Providence Point tested positive for COVID-19. We were notified yesterday that one Dining Services employee at the Baptist Homes campus tested positive for COVID-19. That employee had no close contact with any of our residents. We will conduct further testing of all persons who had close contact with either of these individuals to ensure that they continue to be negative for COVID-19. See the full memo here.

There are currently no residents or staff members who are symptomatic for COVID-19 on either of our campuses. Per Governor Wolf’s mandate, our skilled nursing, personal care, and memory support residences continue to follow visitation restrictions and other COVID-19 guidelines. In addition, per the order of the Pennsylvania Secretary of Health issued on June 8, 2020, in order to assist in protecting the safety of residents and staff, we are beginning the process of universal COVID-19 baseline testing of residents and staff in our healthcare residences. Baptist Senior Family President & CEO Al Allison issued a memo today to all residents, families, and staff regarding the organization’s ongoing battle against the spread of COVID-19. Since the last update on May 29th, there have been no new cases among residents of either of our campuses, and no new cases among our residents since April 16, 2020. There are currently no residents or staff members who are symptomatic for COVID-19 on either campus. On June 4, 2020, in the testing of all newly-hired staff, one person, who had not yet assumed any job duties, tested positive for the virus. We will continue to be diligent in our efforts to keep ourselves, our families, and our residents free from the COVID-19 virus. Although Allegheny County moved to COVID Green on June 5, the Governor’s announcement states that “Given the critical importance of limiting COVID-19 in nursing homes, personal care homes and long-term care facilities, visitation restrictions will remain in place for the next 28 days.” We continue to follow these mandates and restrictions and are deeply appreciative of the cooperation and support of our care teams, residents, and the community. Baptist Senior Family President & CEO Al Allison, Jr. issued a memo regarding the COVID-19 pandemic and Baptist Senior Family’s hard work over the last two months to contain and prevent the spread of the virus. Since early March, Baptist Senior Family has taken steps to prevent and contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus in our communities. In accordance with the guidance published by the Centers for Disease Control, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the PA Department of Health, and the PA Department of Human Services, Baptist Senior Family has worked diligently to limit exposures and bolster infection control procedures. We prepared staff, accumulated resources, and enlisted the cooperation of residents and their families. We remain resolved to provide a safe environment for residents and staff. To date, with a total of about 755 residents being served on our two campuses, three residents have tested positive (about 0.4%) for COVID-19. With a total of approximately 656 staff and contracted staff members, 14 staff have tested positive (about 2.13%) during this same time period. As previously reported, due to the receipt of a report that a Baptist Homes staff member had tested positive for COVID-19, Baptist Homes began testing all residents and staff of the Skilled Nursing Center. To date, of the 200 tests administered, 197 have come back negative for COVID-19 and we are awaiting results on three more individuals.

Late last evening, Baptist Homes was notified that a member of the skilled nursing staff tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. This staff member has not been in the building since April 10, 2020. Fortunately, at this point in time, no residents or other staff members exhibit any signs or symptoms of a COVID-19 infection. However, in an abundance of caution and to provide our residents and staff with a measure of assurance, Baptist Homes is testing all residents and staff of the Skilled Nursing Center for the presence of COVID-19. We hope and pray that these tests will be negative.

As part of our Baptist Senior Family family, we want you to be aware of a recent development on the status of the COVID-19 virus at the Providence Point campus. Today, we were notified that three additional Providence Point staff members have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. One has not worked since April 5, one has not worked since April 7, and one has not worked since April 8.
We have notified the PA Department of Health and the Allegheny County Health Department and are following their recommendations for next steps and appropriate follow-up.
Baptist Senior Family is resolved to continue to provide a safe environment for our residents and staff.

Today we were notified that two of Providence Point’s skilled nursing residents have tested positive for COVID-19. The Pennsylvania Department of Health and the Allegheny County Health Department were informed, and we continue to follow their recommendations and guidance in our efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19 in our community. We understand and embrace our obligations in this challenging time and are deeply appreciative for the cooperation and support of our care teams, residents, and the community. To date, Baptist Homes has no reported incidents of COVID-19.

In this time of pandemic, Baptist Senior Family remains committed to the fulfilment of our mission. For more than 110 years, Baptist Senior Family has been in the forefront of providing quality senior living and care to older adults of Southwestern Pennsylvania. For months, we have planned and taken steps to prepare for the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on our communities. In accordance with guidance published by the Centers for Disease Control, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services, we have worked to limit exposures and bolster our infection control procedures to address the specific risks presented by COVID-19. We have prepared staff, accumulated resources and enlisted the cooperation of residents and their families as we face this unprecedented challenge together.
Despite these efforts, on April 8, 2020, Providence Point administrators were notified that two staff members had tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. We have notified the County Health Department and the Allegheny County Health Department of this development. We are following their directives and recommendations on our next steps. In addition, we have implemented pre-planned measures to contain the COVID-19 virus.
